At Gatehouse Health we offer expert Acupuncture treatments rooted in Classical Chinese Medicine.

Our approach is holistic and results-driven, supporting a wide range of concerns including pain relief, stress and anxiety, digestive issues, injuries, fatigue, and more.

What we describe as “acupuncture” goes beyond just needles – it encompasses a range of powerful body work techniques and heat application tailored to both relieve symptoms and address their underlying causes.

Depending on your needs, treatments may involve the insertion of very fine needles in specific areas of the body to influence the bodies reaction, improving blood flow, calming the nervous system, or working directly into tight or damaged tissues.

What most people don’t know is that there are multiple different types of needles and only one of them involves insertion below the skin. The others involve pressing, stimulation through stroking, plucking of the skin or cutting of the skin (although we leave this last one to doctors now). We may also incorporate cupping or massage to improve circulation and support organ function, while methods like moxibustion (the application of heat) or “deep qi” work help stimulate metabolism or regulate internal systems, addressing conditions like headaches, fatigue, or menstrual imbalances.

Each session is active and hands-on. We continuously assess and treat throughout to ensure meaningful, lasting change.

Steve McCulloch | BSc Lic AAC

Originally an electronic engineer, I graduated in 2012 with a BSc first class honours degree in Chinese Medicine Acupuncture from the University of Westminster. I was then invited to carry out post-graduate training in Taiwan at one of their prominent Chinese Medical Hospitals. Following this, I spent 7 years of post-graduate training learning advanced acupuncture and body massage and manipulation skills from Andrew Nugent Head who was a disciple of Dr. Li Hongxiang in Beijing – one of the last known Chinese medical doctors who still practiced in a manner traceable back to Chinese Medicine as practiced at the zenith of the Imperial Court.

As a keen sports person, my initial interest was in the treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. Although still a large part of my day to day treatments, I now also see many patients with more systemic issues – digestive problems, period dis-regularity, migraines, fertility, anxiety, stress, sleep issues, and chronic fatigue just to name a few.

I am also co-owner of a busy clinic in London, the Millers Way Project, where I spend most of the week. I’ve recently moved to East Sussex and like it very much.
