Veterinary Chiropractic is hands-on approach to assess and support the health of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems in animals. It focuses on the spine, joints, muscles, and nerves, aiming to promote optimal movement, comfort, and function.

This complementary therapy is often used alongside conventional veterinary care to help animals move more freely, recover from injury, and perform at their best, whether they’re an elite athlete or a beloved companion.

Chiropractic Care for Horses:

Horses may benefit from chiropractic care whether they are competing, in regular work, or enjoying retirement. The goal is to help them move more comfortably, efficiently, and confidently.

Equine chiropractic care may support:

  • Improved performance and suppleness
  • Better posture and movement patterns
  • Recovery from stiffness or compensatory strain
  • Behavioural changes linked to discomfort (e.g. resistance under saddle, bucking, reluctance to jump or turn)
  • Support during training, rehabilitation, or after injury
  • Pelvic, poll, or back imbalances affecting saddle fit or rider comfort

Chiropractic Care for Dogs:

Owners often notice their dogs becoming more comfortable during walks, stairs, or play after a course of chiropractic care. It’s a non-invasive way to help maintain quality of life and comfort.

Canine chiropractic care may assist with:

  • Mobility in ageing or arthritic dogs
  • Support for dogs recovering from musculoskeletal injuries or surgery and return to normal function
  • Improved movement and coordination
  • General comfort and body awareness
  • Negative changes in attitude or behaviour
  • Support for active or working dogs
Human & Veterinary Chiropractor

Saskia Wickenden DC PDAC

I graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) in 2020 with First Class Honours in the Master of Chiropractic degree. During my studies, I also qualified as a Level 3 Sports Massage Therapist.

Having ridden and competed horses throughout my life, I have a long-standing passion for equine welfare and performance. This naturally led me to pursue further training in animal care, and I have since completed the Veterinary Chiropractic qualification with Options for Animals and passed the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association (IVCA) examinations.

I take a special interest in the dynamic relationship between horse and rider. As a chiropractor with experience in both human and veterinary care, I work to address the interconnected biomechanics of the partnership. Imbalances, tension, or asymmetries in the rider can significantly influence a horse’s posture, behaviour and way of going, often leading to compensations or discomfort in the horse.

By working with both horse and rider, I aim to restore balance, enhance movement, and promote clearer, more harmonious communication in the saddle. Whether you’re competing at a high level or riding for pleasure, my focus is on helping you and your horse perform and move together with greater ease, comfort, and confidence.
